180 (Cranleigh) Squadron – A new Royal Air Force Air Cadet’s Squadron Formed

On Saturday 9th December a milestone was reached in the history of the Air Cadet unit at Cranleigh, as it became 180 (Cranleigh) Squadron.

This saw the Detached Flight (DF) in Cranleigh  become the first DF in a few decades to be made into a standalone squadron.  The cadet unit has never been a squadron in its history, and it has always been looked after by another parent unit. Colonel Patrick Crowley MBE DL, representing the Lord Lieutenant, was the reviewing officer and had the privilege of presenting the unit its very first banner and formation plaque.   Wing Commander John Machin, Officer Commanding Surrey Wing Royal Air Force Cadets, and staff from the units who used to look after Cranleigh were also present on this momentous occasion . All the staff and cadets look forward to making the unit thrive; they are already doing very well!
