Platinum Jubilee Celebrations across Surrey
The Platinum Jubilee celebrations started with Trooping the Colour and the Thanksgiving Service at St Pauls.
On Saturday 4th June, The Lord-Lieutenant visited the Cobham Platinum celebrations, where he met with volunteers for their Jubilee lunch. He then read a message from Her Majesty before cutting the cake and making a toast.
It was then on to Runnymede to salute The Queen’s Row barge ‘Gloriana’ which was built using traditional materials and methods similar to those used over a hundred years ago, now mixed with twenty-first century technology.
On Sunday 5th June, The Lord-Lieutenant visited Gatton Park to attend a Picnic in the Park to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Hundreds of people attended to enjoy the Capability Brown estate and mark the historic event with various commemorative events, including an art installation for children and a tree planting ceremony to mark the jubilee.
He met with volunteers and trustees, for a tour of the progress of the renovation of the gardens around Gatton Hall. They held a planting ceremony to mark the ongoing restoration of their historic rock garden.
Followed by the Platinum Jubilee service held at Guildford Cathedral and then on to the Haslemere carnival to celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee, where as part of the celebrations, he dedicated a Jubilee Clock.
The weekend in Haslemere had started off with a Bonfire, the Charter Fair, a Scarecrow Competition, Jubilee Concert, Carnival procession, and a Tea party with the bands on the Green.
