Nourish Our Nurses – Engelfield Green
Jo-Ann Airikkala launched Nourish our Nurses in north Surrey just before the Lockdown, to supply fresh fruit, vegetables and pasta to the NHS frontline staff at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals Trust. Via a GoFundMe page, by 22nd April 2020 the initiative had raised £23k. Jo-Ann goes to the market twice a week at 4am to buy fresh produce; then a wonderful team of volunteers arrives at the car park of Bishopsgate School in Englefield Green, Egham, to pack the 200 bags. The independent school has loaned its minibus to Nourish our Nurses to transport the bags of provisions. As well as nourishing the staff at St Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey, the start-up group is also delivering to staff at South East Coast Ambulance Service and The Princess Alice Hospice in Esher. By Friday 24th April, it will have delivered 1,800 bags and plans to keep up deliveries to these vital front line staff.
